New in the Maasduinen Foundation; the BrainTrainerPlus™, thanks to the Rabobank!
March 2010 | De Maasduiner
Mid-January all the business managers of our organization got together to try to unpack these beautiful consoles. We were able to buy the Brain Trainers thanks to a generous donation by Rabobank.
Each location has received a machine and has another machine on order, which can be connected to a projector, so in turn each home can make use of it. In Maasduiner No. 2 last year, we already saw what the BrainTrainerPlus™ can do. If you have not read this before then you can read an excerpt below.
The Rotterdam based company Qiosq has partnered with Frankeland Rotterdam and developed a user-friendly game concept which playfully helps the elderly to reactivate their memory. Appositive experience is central: training and games provide a form of relaxation. Initial experience shows that playing on the BrainTrainerPlus™ keeps older minds sharp and stimulates the mind.
Children and adults have little difficulty with the small brain trainers currently on the market. However for older people these games are almost impossible to follow: too small and too complicated. Therefore Qiosq devised a console with a touch screen as well as a program of meaningful games.
The accessibility of the BrainTrainerPlus™ takes away fears of computers. Older people can use this game themselves, live independently as they appear on their memory trigger. The BrainTrainerPlus™ simultaneously stimulates numeracy, spatial awareness, hand-eye coordination and responsiveness and also provides a targeted therapeutic program. For example, this is good for residents with mild dementia or intellectual disabilities and people affected by a stroke. The BrainTrainerPlus™ is regularly updated with new games. The games are questions and images which relate to current events and the past.
The pace of the BrainTrainerPlus™ can be set individually. The game registers individual results, but the focus of the games isn’t winning. After your first time it is also easy to choose the level you want to play at.
It can be used in various places, dependent on where our clients want it, it is easy to move, there’s no internet connection, only one outlet is sufficient. It can be used by people with a mental or physical disability. But even for people without disabilities it is fun and meaningful. As the touch screen is accessible people can also use it independently. Take part in memory training in the recreation room or in the living room and in different locations for each care home.
The residents enthusiastically tried the BrainTrainerPlus™ and found it an enjoyable activity, which could be done alone or in groups. Given the demand-driven range of activities and our evolving client base combined with the technique that fits first time, this means the BrainTrainerPlus™ is a valuable asset! We would like to thank Rabobank very much!
