ROTTERDAM – Today at 3pm, Mr. Hans Scheel of the Monuta Charity Fund presented a symbolic check to the residents of nursing home Liduina Laurens. This donation by the Charity Fund Monuta is being used to buy a Brain Trainer Plus ™. The presentation took place in the nursing home with Mr. Hendrik Jan van Katwijk, the supplier of the BrainTrainerPlus™ also present.
Miriam Keereweer, Liduina’s activities coordinator said “We had a BrainTrainerPlus™ last year for few months on trial. Our residents were very enthusiastic about it. Then we submitted a sponsorship application to the Monuta Charity Fund and it was successful. ”
The BrainTrainerPlus™ is a console with a user friendly touch screen and a program of meaningful games for older people, helping them to playfully activate their memory. The positive experience is central: training and games are a fun and meaningful form of relaxation. Experience shows that playing on the BrainTrainerPlus™ promotes responsiveness amongst the elderly in their mental facilities, numeracy, spatial awareness and hand-eye coordination.
The games are questions and processed images that relate to the present and the past. You could also include photographic memories from relatives. Moreover for people with mild dementia there is a targeted therapeutic program.
The BrainTrainerPlus™ was developed by Qiosq BV in Rotterdam and has already been successfully used in a number of other institutions in the region.
Laurens is the largest provider of housing, services and care in Rotterdam area. A professional care organisation with a small-scale approach, close to people in the community in which they live. We provide care and services that adapt to our customers in each phase. Laurens Liduina therefore wants more neighbourhood awareness and greater involvement in its activities.
